CR Community Solar makes it easy and simple to subscribe for services and both homeowners and businesses can participate. Join the movement and make a difference and help build a brighter future now and for generations to come!
Community Solar Gardens are built and operated by developers who work with your local utility provider. Together under this state-regulated program your community can now enjoy the benefits and savings of community solar!
Qualified members of your community can subscribe to the farms.
The solar energy produced by your subscribed allocation of the solar farm goes to the local power grid.
Solar credits for the same solar energy produced are automatically applied to your utility bill.
You'll receive two bills, one from your utility for your electricity service with solar credits applied, and the other from us for your solar farm subscription.

A subscriber to the Massachusetts SMART program must be a National Grid electric retail customer in Massachusetts.
The community solar garden allotted allocation is based on a first come, first served basis. Once the program is fully subscribed, any customer who wishes to join will be placed on a waiting list and will be among the first notified by CR Community Solar once their desired portion of kWs is available.
- A subscriber must be an electric retail customer of National Grid.
- Subscribers will be provided a monthly credit on their bill. The credit will based on each customers’ allocation of the community solar project.
There is no up-front cost to you. You will be billed each month after National Grid has posted the credit to your electric bill. It will show up as a “dollar credit” towards your bill.
The value of your bill credits will change as National Grid’s rates change – but you will always receive a 1 cent discount to National Grid’s current credit rate! For example, you pay 9 cents for a credit worth 10 cents (10% discount), or 8 cents for a credit worth 9 cents (11% discount). Average historical savings is near 11%.
